Tooting Tram and Social – Tooting

In an area dominated by Primark, fried chicken shops and Poundwise 99p store is The Tooting Tram & Social Club. It’s gorgeous inside, almost palatial with an epically high ceiling and lovely mezzanine. As a former Tram Shed it has 75ft ceilings giving the impression of a vastly eccentric ballroom with elaborate chandeliers and sixties lamps. The multitude of worn and comfortable leather couches, odd pictures (I spot a Tretchikoff –yes!) and ornaments give this bar wonderful charisma. It’s in a bit of a far-flug location, I’ve tried to like Tooting but honestly apart from The Tooting Tram & Social there isn’t much to like. It’s probably like Shepherds Bush, the part near the station is hideous but you don’t need to go far to get to the nice residential parts. Often though it’s these kinds of places where you can discover real gems. It’s a bit of a task to find but well worth it when you do.
