Mahogany Bar Wilton’s Music Hall – Aldgate

wiltonsmusic17

Wilton’s Music Hall appears to be hanging on to its original self for dear life. The Mahogany Bar was originally built in 1725, it’s pretty damn old and it’s beautiful inside, all original brick work and wooden beams. Unfortunatley on this occassion I couldn’t access the main theatre as they were setting up for a production of the Great Gatsby but from pictures I’ve seen, it’s stunning. The bar is lovely for a drink even if you aren’t going to see a play. It has lots of character, you really feel like they have kept as much of the orginal arcitecture as possible, it’s pretty ‘raw’ inside yet they’ve made it cosy and homely at the same time with a definite touch of old glamour. Upstairs they have a ping pong table and some interesting art installations, but it’s the building itself which is the main attraction I think.
