L’Entrepot (Borough Wines) – Hackney Downs

Inbetween a skip and a Tesco Express is the last place I would expect to find a place like L’Entrepot. Owned by Borough Wines, this wine bar/cafe is a brilliant addition to a very quickly up and coming area. Now I’m afraid I don’t know too much about wine, the more expensive the better generally as cheap red wine gives me a headache. Saying this I grew up with a father who drank wine out of the box, French style adding elderflower cordial to it so I’m no snob. I love the space itself, very classy and spacious in a warehouse style setting with shelves full of wine so you don’t forget what you’re here for. They serve small tapas style plates of food (and pies) to accompany the wine, not the other way around so I wouldn’t come here for dinner as such. A nice feature is that you can bring your own wine bottles and fill up from barrels of white, red or rose which come straight from the owners vineyard. It’s definitely a nice alternative to a pub if you feel like a change.
