Pacific Social Club

Pacific Social Club is located on Clarence road, the same road that the Pogo Cafe is on and definitely one of the few streets left in Hackney that feels fairly dodgy, it was pretty much ground zero for the Hackney riots. That’s what makes Pacific Social Club even more awesome though, as like one of my all-time favourites, the Pogo Cafe they are prepared to brave it which gives them that edge. You would be hard pressed to find a better example of interior design as well. They have that ‘American diner in the rainforest’ look, (respect to those who invent their own genre), retro furniture, leather booths and lots and lots of pictures of parrots, it’s all so colourful. You get the impression that they don’t take it all too seriously either, as if one of them got hold of an old calendar of parrot pictures from a charity shop and thought “lets roll with this theme!” This gets huge points with me. They have a great menu of interesting stuff and good cakes. The two guys who run it look like they should be serving up Pina Coladas at a Tiki bar in Hawaii, I imagine they’ve travelled a lot and haven’t wasted too much time in an office or working at all for that matter, such a great place, definitely a new favourite.
