Drink, Shop & Do – Kings Cross

About 10 years ago I used to live around the corner from Drink, Shop & Do (it wasn’t there then though). I can tell you, King’s Cross was a very different place back then. We used to call Pentonville Road ‘Smack Street’ and the McDonalds where all the wino’s and prostitutes would hang out ‘Crack Corner’. Well regeneration has taken care of that and definitely for the better, I mean King’s Cross was a shithole. Now there’s a Pret a Manger, a Tesco express and a whole number of glossy new chains. The best thing though is Drink, Shop & Do as it stands alone as the best independent cafe for a long way. Whenever I’ve asked people about it they always say “oh I love that place”. They serve brilliant cakes and tea out of ridiculous yet no doubt collectable tea pots and all their cakes like Battenberg and Victoria sponge fit in with the vintage theme, all very British. The tea room is in a big sunny space with tall ceilings and eclectic furniture and they have a sweet shop too. They serve delicious milkshakes and in the evening they serve alcohol, it would be a great place to a have a party (they hire out the space, complete with party platters). It’s worth taking a look at their website as they do all manner of other things, that’s the ‘Do’ bit in Drink, Shop & Do although I’m quite content with a cup of tea and a piece of cake.
