Fee Fee La Fou – Dalston

This a bonkers shop, I just love how colourful it is and all the weird stuff it sells. An artist herself, Fee created this intriguing shop selling not only her artwork but other artists work too. Everything is for sale from the multicoloured furniture to the chandeliers stuffed with teddy bears, cushions with crazy covers combining everything from Hee-man to Thomas the Tank Engine and bits and pieces that you get in those mad ‘stuff’ shops you find in Tokyo. With an obsession with the circus and fairgrounds, the theme is definitely apparent, with collectible circus themed plates, lots of Mickey Mouse stuff a giant clown, a grabber machine even a mini helter skelter. I don’t know where she’s found this stuff but it’s been done really well, taking 1960′s G-plan furniture and painting it neon colours, it all looks great. It reminds me a little bit of that huge junk yard just outside of Las Vegas which has all the old casino signs. I love it when people start projects like Fee Fee La Fou, as all though I’m sure she’s very happy to sell things, it doesn’t come across as all that commercial, it’s just some cool place dreamed up by a super creative eccentric and makes a great contribution to what’s making Dalston so good these days. While you’re there pay a visit to the cutest little cafe on the corner called Bird, it’s lovely.
